I have been recharging all the time 2G plans (302rs) for internet but, was always getting the 3G speed of 3.1 Mbps or even more in good network coverage areas.
Currently I live in Pune, Maharastra and I am getting around 300-500KB/s download speed.
I did nothing to increase my speed, no trick, nothing. Just simply recharging with 302Rs 2G internet plan which provides me 8GB of data for 3 months.
I think you can try this in other BSNL 2G packs, with less cost for trail and error. You can recharge with following internet plans which are cheap for experimentation
- 7rs – 1 day – 100MB
- 14rs – 3 days -200MB
- 54rs – 30days - 500MB
I have used my same BSNL card at Latur, Maharastra which gave me around 7.2 Mbps speed (500-600 KB/s). Same I used in other part of Maharastra it was working same.

Note: Some times its irritating to use BSNL because of network problem. But only for some times mostly for the day, from next its okay.
